Tracking your stats

In this #BlogLife post, I want to talk about making a note of your stats. I have only done this for the last three months and found that it has helped me focus on certain areas. It has also helped me realise what I would need to focus on.

Should you take note of your stats?

Yes, it can really help focus your blogging strategy. As you can see from my stats table below, Twitter is my most successful social media platform in terms of followers. I do spend most of my social media time on Twitter as I love the engagement you get.

You can also see that in March I decided to give Instagram a focus, just look at that increase, all in one month!

In March and April, I took a step back in actually blogging and tried to focus on social media. As a result, visitors to my blog dropped, especially in March, they increased by almost double in April and that was mainly down to one post, PND affects dads to

My DA, PA and Tots results aren't available yet but you can see they have improved each month so far. For my DA to improve I worked hard on adding links to other posts in each post I wrote. I also had a couple of mentions in other people's blogs, which obviously helps.

What's next for me?

Based on these stats I think I am going to try and improve my UMV (unique monthly visitors). I'm not sure what a good figure per month is but I am fairly sure mine is pretty poor. I'm going to speak to some other bloggers who I know are successful and steal all their ideas. I will hopefully publish around 10 posts this month and schedule my sharing of these posts better than I have previously.

How should you track your stats?

Quite easy really, think about the stats that you actually care about, open excel and then type them in one column like the above table and add them in on the 1st of each month. Today (1st May) I added all my stats in Aprils column for the full month of April, I wouldn't worry too much if you miss a few days before you take note of your stats but try and stick to the same date each month if possible.

Do you already track your stats? Let me know how you're getting on. If anyone has any tips on improving my UMV then please leave a comment below

  1. It's a very personal thing. It's useful to keep an eye on stats but they will go up and down. Being active in the parenting sphere, I suspect you'll find things tail off in the school holidays and come back again afterwards. Good luck!
